Ok, maybe I’m a little out of the loop, but what is it with the talks about a black James Bond? It seems like since the latest Bond flick, Quantum of Solace,  came out last Fall there has been this constant buzz about who can be the first black James Bond. My question is, are the producers even interested in doing this or is this just a bunch of chatter because we have a president of color now? I know that the current James Bond, Daniel Craig, mentioned that he thought the next Bond could be black, but come on.

Diddy and Jamie Foxx have already forwarded their names as a possible replacement for the current 007. And recently, Obsessed star Idris Elba had claimed that he would be a better choice because he was British. In a recent interview Will Smithsaid claimed that he would be the best for the role.

“Puff probably lives the most like James Bond and Jamie Foxx got the swagger for James Bond. He can sing too, so he can add a new element to Bond, wooing the ladies,” Contactmusic quoted Smith as saying. He added: “But I think I can guarantee the box office!”

Diddy even went to the extent of shooting a 007-themed TV ad for his fragrance line, just to show producers how he’d look as a black Bond.

Don’t get me wrong, I think it would be cool to see a black Bond, but I also think that it would be cooler to see a black man in a totally different movie franchise playing an undercover agent (think Don Cheadle in last year’s Traitor). What do you think? Should there be a black Bond or should the idea be left alone?

Should the be a black James Bond?

  • Yes, it is time to diversify the 007 character (0.0%)
  • No, start another undercover agent film with a black star (100.0%)
  • Who is James Bond? (0.0%)
