Common has been added to the cast of director Ridley Scott’s “American Gangster,” which stars Denzel Washington in the story of real-life drug kingpin-turned-informant Frank Lucas. He joins fellow rappers RZA, T.I. in the star-studded cast.
Chiwetel Ejiofor, who worked with Washington in Spike Lee’s “Inside Man,” has also joined the ensemble cast to play Lucas’ brother. RZA, a member of the Wu Tang Clan, will play one of Crowe’s partners who specializes in surveillance. T.I. and Common will play members of Washington’s drug empire.
Frank Lucas made headlines three decades ago by shipping heroin to the U.S. in the coffins of soldiers killed in Vietnam. The Universal Pictures film is currently shooting in New York.
