Well, it looks like their has been a recent Will Smith sighting in New York City’s Time Square. This is because the filmmakers of this summers blockbuster Hancockneeded to re-shoot scenes to tone down the subject matter for the film.
…Peter Berg had mentioned that the film “remained surprisingly sexual, violent and true in spirit to an original script,” which had caused it to receive an R-rating twice from the MPAA.
This film will be released on July 2 and the trailer looks great. I’m not sure whether i really care if it’s rated R or PG-13, but if I had to pick one I’d go with PG-13. Mostly because I know that the film will do better number$ if it is not limited to an R-rated audience.
Plus sometime R-ratings aren’t that necessary. Reportedly, they re-shot a scene that originally had Hancock drinking with a 13 year old kid. The MPAA didn’t like that, for obvious reasons, and that was one of the reasons they gave the film the R-rating. Personally, i don’t need to see an adult drinking with a teenager to get the understanding that this dude has a drinking problem. So I say cut it or re-shoot the scene with someone that’s at least 18 years old, and move on, get the PG-13 rating and make some big bucks.
Will Smith’s new summer (hit) film is Hancock, scheduled to be released July 2, 2008. The film, which went by the previous names Tonight, He Comes and John Hancock, has a brand new teaser trailer out. In Hancock, Will Smith plays a superhero named Hancock who’s fallen on hard times, and when he hires a PR exec (Jason Bateman) to correct his image, Hancock winds up falling for the his wife (Charlize Theron). Should be interesting flick and another smash for Will, following his string of big successes, including I Am Legend. The effects already look great and they still have a few more months to tighten everything up. What do you think about the trailer and the film’s concept?
Wanted, the new action film starring James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman, and rapper Common, now has a trailer online at Yahoo.
Wanted is about a young man (McAvoy) finds out his long lost father is an assassin. And when his father is murdered, the son is recruited into his father’s old organization and trained by a man named Sloan (Freeman) to follow in his dad’s footsteps.
Ludacris is co-starring in the upcoming film Fred Claus, a comedy starring Paul Giamatti as Santa Claus and Vince Vaughn as Santa’s brother, Fred.
In the film, Ludacris plays an elf DJ. Yup, an elf DJ, who spins music to help motivate the other toy-making elves at the North Pole.
Luda hasn’t had a lot of chances to play comedic roles in comedy films (outside of some of his music videos). I like to see rappers step outside of themselves and give us another perspective. A lot of times they are typecast and probably only go after roles that will ‘increase their street-cred’ (whatever that is). Shout out to Luda for trying something different.
Ludacris is currently filming the Guy Ritchie directed RocknRolla which stars Gerard Butler (300), Jeremy Piven (Entourage), and Thandie Newton (Crash). Be sure to check out Fred Clause when it hits theaters on November 9 (check the tralier after the break). (more…)
Yo peep the trailer for I Am Legend, Will Smith’s latest project, set to premiere December 14. This looks like a hot flick, and we know Will has a knack for picking the right movies to star in. I think this will do great numbers throughout the holidays. I’m getting my ticket!
I might have to change the name of the website to filmingcommon.com. Peep the trailer for the latest Common music video, “I Want You” which is scheduled to premiereon Oct. 23 on BET’s 106 & Park. The trailer features Kerry Washington, Kanye West, Alicia Keys, Derek Luke, Serena Williams.
Blackfilm.com has a nice stash of preview clips from the upcoming flick American Gangster, starring Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe, Common, T.I. and RZA; directed by Ridley Scott.
If you’re like me, you might not want to see too much of the film before seeing it on the opening weekend (I look away from the 30 second TV trailers, lol!). But if you are adventurous, check out the clips here. The film is due out on November 2.
So, unless you’ve been under a rock you know that Jay-Z is getting ready to drop a new CD, American Gangster, a musical interpretation of the film by the same same (starring Denzel Washington, Russel Crowe, Common, T.I., and RZA). Jay-Z is using this CD to return to his early days of emceeing about his life hustling on the street.
SOHH talked to the director of the video trailer for Jay’s first single “Blue Magic.” In the video, director Rik Cordero depicts an anonymous hustler moving product on the gritty streets.
“Based on that [description from Def Jam execs] I just updated that kind of concept and added a little spin to it from a young hustler’s perspective,” Cordero told SOHH. “It was totally like no permits, really renegade. The main kid was like an intern at Def Jam. The girls in the video were friends of one of the producers. It was put together really quickly.”
Although Hype Williams has shot the official video for “Blue Magic,” Cordero said he is “on call” for the mini-films that Def Jam plans to release for each song on American Gangster.
I think the video is a tight concept, especially for the subject matter of the song, album, and upcoming film. This is the type of advertising that I believe the music industry is destined to use more often to promote its newest records. Youtube and other Web 2.0 sites make it a lot less expensive to spread news about new product in a quick efficient way that will create that much needed buzz. What do you think about these type of viral music video advertisements.
