HipHopDx.com has an exclusive story about two new TheBoondocks episodes that may never air on Adult Swim and may not even make it to the second season DVD release. They are reporting that an anonymous source close to the situation issued a statement exclusively to HipHopDX.com explaining that not one, but two episodes have been banned from airing. Here’s his statement as to what has transpired in recent weeks.
“It now appears official that TWO episodes of The Boondocks second season — clips of which surfaced on and then were pulled from Youtube — will not air. At all. Ever.
Fans who were waiting for the show to reach the levels of controversy that last year’s Peabody Award-winning “The Return of Martin Luther King” episode achieved will have to cross their fingers and hope that Sony execs don’t also pull the episodes from the second season DVD, which is slated for late spring.
The two episodes were originally scheduled to air on November 16 and December 17, respectively. No official reasons were given for the banning of the episodes from either Sony or Adult Swim as of yet. (more…)
Cinematical is reporting that Common has been called in to audition for the role of the Green Lantern in the upcooming Justice League of America film slated for a 2010 release (boy is he staying busy!).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, director George Miller flew in from his home in Australia over the weekend to check out 35-40 young actors who were brought in to test for roles like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman, Green Lantern and the Martian Manhunter.
I think this would be a good move for Common. So far he has done a great job being casted in crime dramas Smoking Aces, American Gangster, The Night Watchmanand Wanted, but it would be good to see him in a different type film such as Justice League of America. We’ll keep you posted on the updates to this story as they come in.
At San Diego Comic-Con, the crew from The Boondocks held a panel and they spent a portion of it discussing plots for upcoming episodes of season two. Plots mentioned for the upcoming season include the following:
Stinkmeaner, who died in season one, returns in a Halloween special. Expect the episode to have The Excorcist and The Shining related gags, with Stinkmeaner possessing Tom’s body.
Riley joins the basketball team Tom is coaching.
Uncle Ruckus gets a reality show.
An episode titled “The N Word” which has Riley’s teacher calling him the titled word. In part due to the prolonged development of season two, this episode was developed before the current media situations cropped up over the use of the word by certain white celebrities.
The crew also gave information in regards to the fate of the series’ recurring characters. Gangstalicious (known in the show for the hit single “I Got Shot”), along with Gin Rummy and W will return. Additionally, while who they will voice is currently unrevealed, Ghostface Killah and Snoop Dogg are among the guest voices this season. Finally, although the character Caesar from the Boondocks comic strip will not be in season two, they would still like to use him in the future. (more…)
When Grandmaster Flash and DJ Kool Herc brought the sound of Jamaica to the streets of New York their goal was to have this “Hip-Hop” sound infiltrate of style of music. In the year 2007 we can see hip-hop’s influence in everything from clothes, cars, tv and movies. Which brings me to my latest topic. Cartoons, yes I said cartoons.Â
Kid ‘n Play even had their own NBC Saturday morning cartoon, Kid ‘n Play, for one season from 1990 to 1991.
M.C. Hammer had Hammerman Saturday morning’s which aired for one season (1991 - 1992).
In November 2006 the Cartoon Network release “Class of 3000″ starring Andre 3000 from Outkast that has original songs for each episode.
Adult Swim did a collaboration with Danger Mouse and MF Doom called “DangerDoom” in 2005.
The latest venture with Hip-Hop and animation actually comes from France. The movie is based on the cult TV series “Les Lascars” which aired on MTV as “Round da Way.” The 30 x 1 min Gallic show was an instant hit when it aired on Canal Plus seven years ago, but has grown to become an Internet phenom, with pirated Arab and Creole-language versions, as well as the original French and English versions, popular on sites such as YouTube. The show was the most watched program on Orange and SFR mobile phones last year, with more than 600,000 hits. The €10 million ($13.5 million) pic includes an American version, with such artists as L.A. rapper Fat Lip. The French version, which includes improvised humor, is practically finished, and animation will begin this summer. The picture will be distributed by Bac Films, subsid of producer Millimages, with coin from Canal Plus and pubcaster France 2, co-producing.
Millimage has been trying to develop a 26-minute series and a movie for years, but the concept seemed too edgy for French broadcasters. With this latest development coming I wonder how long it will be before another rapper get’s into animation. I look forward to seeing how Fat Lip does in this one.
29 year old rapper Chris “Ludacris” Bridges appreared on the 400th episode of The Simpsons last night. It was quite comical. Luda was playing a role as a tube of toothpaste named Luda-Crest, spittin’ lyrics and fighting off a gang of cavity creeps and tooth decay. Check the low highquality video below. I’ll post a better quality vid later. Also, Homer breaks it down towards the end.
